Institut Interculturel de Montréal

Action-Research Projects

IIM was engaged in a process of continual interaction between reflection and action that are mutually reinforcing. Somewhat different from action-research in academic settings, action-research at IIM was the result of knowledge production based on the institute’s different activities and actions. Goals pursued in this action-research are firstly, to recover subjugated systems of knowledge of diverse peoples and cultures and that of the informal sector of our societies; secondly, to articulate an intercultural and community-based method of research.

  • Promote and sustain South-North and South-South intercultural co-operation and solidarity
  • Inform and raise awareness among development workers (government agencies, NGOs, private sectors groups, universities etc.) with regards to the value and viability of endogenous and traditional knowledge in pursuit of the well-being of local communities.
